Wikis

I have two wikis at the present time. The first one I started as a place where I could communicate with my children as the Christmas season approached. I wanted to give them a place to list items that they were interested in receiving for Christmas. They were very good about posting their wishes along with links to sites where the items could be viewed and/or purchased. Having this wiki was very helpful to me. I get very anxious at Christmas time and the electronic list was comforting to me. I asked my kids to give me many suggestions so I could fit my purchases into my budget and still surprise them with my choices. I later added another page to my wiki that serves as a place to store favorite family recipes. My children call me occasionally looking for favorite recipes. I posted them on the wiki so they are accessible any time. A third page was added to my original wiki to help my husband's family communicate while caring for their mother as she began to decline. It was easier to post on the wiki than send out group emails. The messages on the wiki were for every sibling to see in effort to provide good care for their mother.

My second wiki is used to record the steps of my team mates for the So Be Fit steps program. I am the team captain. Every week I transfer the steps on our wiki to an Excel document then copy and paste the numbers to Patty Wagner's spread sheet for everyone on the team. Here's the link to our team wiki. http://never-idles.pbworks.com/FrontPage

I checked out the Greetings from the World wiki and the Kindergarten Counting Book. I liked them both. The kindergarten wiki featured the efforts of small children representing numbers. The world wiki was confusing at first. I didn't see what was so special about it and why it had won awards until I clicked on the side bar and started viewing the "glogs". I didn't check out Glogster when it was offered but I am going to now. I loved some of the posters people made about their homes. The one from Colorado had Youtube videos imbedded in it. Amazing! Even though these two wikis had such different content they were both used to display work of students.

Wow - I love how you have used wikis in both you professional and personal life. These are great examples!
